Petti Kadai is part of cultural identity: Bharathiraja

Varsha Bollamma ,who gave an impressive performance in Vijay Sethupathi’s 96 and more recently in Seemathurai, has bagged yet another interesting film. Titled Petti Kadai, she is paired opposite actor Veera of Mosakutti fame. Isakki Karvannan pens the story, screenplay and wields the megaphone. Maria Manohar has composed the music.
The film also features Sundar and Asmitha as the second pair. “While Petti kadais (petty shops) sell products that are daily necessities, the corporate and online supermarkets use marketing gimmicks and give false promises to get people to buy products that are often perilous to health,” says Karvannan.
Speaking at the audio launch of the film, Bharathiraja said, “Petti shops are part of our cultural identity. In villages and towns, we have a special bond with these shops where we go almost on a daily basis. We have to protect our traditions and culture. Don’t stamp me as an anti-social for saying this, as we have been seeing in recent days!”
