The Pollachi sex scam gained wide attention thanks to social media posts. The actor-politician Kamal Haasan, president of the MNM party, took up the cause of the victims by exposing the fact that more than 60 women from Pollachi and Coimbatore may have been sexually assaulted, blackmailed and harassed by a group of men. The case, which triggered widespread outrage, has been transferred to the CB-CID now.

The men had been befriending girls through social media to get closer to them and then lure them to meetings where they would sexually abuse them while shooting the events on video. The gang was extorting money from victims threatening the outing of the explicit videos.

Kamal Haasan visited the DGP office on Tuesday to express anxiety over the Pollachi sex scam. Many other Kollywood celebrities raised their voices in support of the victims and demanded immediate and severe action against the culprits who were involved in heinous crimes. They also raised questions about the safety of women in the State.

A heart wrenching video in which a girl cries appealing to her ‘brothers’ to spare her has set off empathy for the victims like none other. The video has been outed to show the severity of the crimes committed by the four men arrested for the crimes.

Siddharth, Aishwarya Rajesh, Kathir, GV Prakash, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Suza Kumar and Chimnayi were among those who took to their social media handle to condemn and express their angst towards those who have been arrested in the case.
