Appa remake or dub on the cards
Samuthirakani is also in talks with producers and distributors to take Appa to Sandalwood and Bollywood.
Director-actor-producer Samuthirakani’s recent venture Appa seemed to have struck the right cords among children, parents, and even school headmasters.
The film hit the theatres on July 1 and is definitely a profitable run for Samuthirakani. An elated Nadodigal director is all smiles, as Appa is reported to be the first film to be recommended by headmasters.
Recently, school headmaster of Thooya Theresa Primary School sent out a circular asking parents to pay a visit to Sri Valli theatre in Gobipalayam to watch Appa. The circular also stated that they would get discounts on showing the identity card of their children. Speaking to DC, Samuthirakani said, “I’m really happy about the response that Appa has been receiving. I shot this movie keeping this positive response in my mind. This child of mine (Appa) needs to go places as the message in the movie is the need of the hour. Schools in Theni and Coimbatore have arranged special shows for children.”
Samuthirakani is also in talks with producers and distributors to take Appa to Sandalwood and Bollywood. He further added that talks are underway and Appa would either be dubbed or will be remade in Kannada and Hindi. The official announcement will be out soon.
Has he planned on directing more socially responsible movies? — “Appa has given me confidence and there are hundreds of stories that can be made into a film.”
