Madhavan is Maara now
Dhilip talks to DC about how he convinced Maddy for the titular role even when the female protagonist in the movie portrays a very strong character.
Madhavan and Shraddha Srinath, the cute pair of Vikram Vedha, is teaming up once again for an adventurous romantic drama titled Maara. Touted to be a fast-paced romance, the movie is directed by Dhilip of Kalki fame, which was an independent film.
Dhilip talks to DC about how he convinced Maddy for the titular role even when the female protagonist in the movie portrays a very strong character.
“In the first narration itself, I and Maddy gelled very well. And it worked. Later, we were interacting for a couple of months on fine-tuning the script. Apparently, my producer Pramod Films, bankrolling Maara, helped me to meet Maddy.”
On the film, he says, “Maara is a romantic drama, which is not routine stuff you see in every other film. It has its other side, pacy and a little adventurous.” Why Madhavan? “The lead protagonist character itself demanded someone with innate charm and only Madhavan can do justice to it. Maara is a positive person brimming with energy. It is about a person getting to know of another person and what happens in the process.”
The lead lady has an equal bearing in the script, Dhilip claims. “Initially, we were a bit apprehensive to cast Shraddha as audiences have seen them in VV. But we needed a powerhouse performer and this genre is something different and hence opted for Shraddha.”
The film is set in the backdrop of a city and then it travels to a seashore city. Dhilip has worked as assistant to noted ad filmmaker Prakash Varma. While Ghibran does the music, Deepak Bhagwan is behind the camera. Art director Ajayan Challisery, a known name in Mollywood, will be in charge of the set designs and Dhilip says that artwork forms a significant role in Maara.
