Speaking out against honour killings
Para denotes freedom, says Keera.
At a time when instances of honourkilling are on the rise in TN, director Keera is coming out with a movie, Para, on this sensitive issue and tries to arrive at a solution.
“People ask me if Para denotes a particular caste. It does not! Para means ‘flying’. Here, I am using it as a metaphor. It denotes freedom,” says Keera, talking to DC about the film. The story takes place over 12 hours.
“People connect repression only to caste-related issues. But there are repressions of various types — related to sex, religion, economic issues, nationalism, etc. The story revolves around a platform dweller, a pair of lovers who have eloped, a senior citizen couple, a thief, a lawyer, a politician, a policeman and a club dancer”, says Keera.
Samuthirakani, who is the backbone of the film, essays the role of Ambedkar, a lawyer who speaks for the downtrodden. In an earlier interview, Kanihad said that it was Pa Ranjith who introduced Keera to him, and that he was happy to be part of a meaningful movie.
Parahas an ensemble cast of Chandini Tamilarasan, Nithish, Munishkanth, Shaju Mon, Venba among others.
