Director Bani, a former associate to director Samuthirakani, is foraying into Kollywood with Rani, starring Dhansika in the lead role. “I had a hero-oriented  script and I was trying to venture into films with it. Sadly, the movie didn’t materialise. So, I started to work on a female-oriented script, Rani. I had directed 40 telefilms and few serials in Malaysia,” says Bani.

On choosing Dhansika, the director says, “It was Kani who suggested Dhansika’s name for the role. When other heroines I had approa-ched were hesitant to play the role of a mother, Dhansika agreed to come on board soon after the narration. She plays Thulasi, mother of twin daughters — Meera and Tara. The film stresses on the fact that a mother’s love knows no bounds.”

Director Bani shares that working with Ilaiyaraaja in his debut film was a great experience. “When I approached him, he said that the story is too emotional and painful. After seeing the visuals, he was impressed. Usually, a particular BG score will appear during important scenes in the film. But, he has composed different tunes for different circumstances. His tunes will not be repeated in the film,” he shares.

Bani is excited and nervous as well — “I was Nadodigal’s co-director along with Kani anna. His film, Thondan is also releasing on May 5 and I have mixed feelings.”
