Konkona Sen Sharma, who won the Gollapudi Srinivas National award for debut directors with her maiden movie A Death in the Gunj says she had no specific plans to become a director after featuring as an actor in movies like Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Life in a …Metro and critically acclaimed film Lipstick under my Burkha. She has also written the script for the film saying it was very close to her heart as she had heard the story from her father. It is about a remote place in Jharkhand called McCluskieganj. Her parents used to own a house there and they would often visit the place during her childhood and she grew up listening to spooky and haunting stories. The film had only limited financial resources and she had no intention to make it since she had just become a mother. It was producer Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey who came up to her to encourage her. She was also inspired by her parents Mukul Sharma and Aparna Sen into starting work on the movie.
