A film titled Dr Anitha MBBS, on S. Anitha from Ariyalur who aspired to become a doctor but committed suicide when she failed to crack the NEET exam, was announced a few months back. The film is into a controversy now and producer Raj Ganapathy speaks to DC  about it.

“We wanted to film Anitha’s life and screen it at various film festivals. We brought in one Ajay Kumar to direct the film. When we approached Anitha’s family, they didn't like the idea of casting Julie in it and also demanded a bound script. Though as a producer, I was ready for both, Ajay fought with them and said that our film has nothing to do with the late Anitha. I felt this was not in good taste and hence we distanced from Ajay and are now trying to make the film with me wielding the megaphone and looking for a suitable lead girl.”

After a pause, he adds, “Meanwhile we hear that Ajay, with a changed name as Arasakumar continues to make the film Dr Anitha MBBS, with Julie and Powerstar Srinivasan. The title is mine and properly registered with Producers Council.  We have also obtained proper approval from Anitha’s family. So, I want to reiterate that Ajay Kumar has nothing to do with Dr Anitha MBBS and he cannot use the title. I have also sent a legal notice."
