Kalavu Thozhirachalai starring Vamsi Krishna has been in the making for quite sometime and will finally hit the theatre on September 22. The director of the film, T Krishna Shamy, is hopeful about the success of the film and he reveals about the commercial entertainer, which is  on idol robberies.

“The premise of the story is idol smuggling. Whenever someone hears the word ‘idol theft’ they immediately think of some violence, killing of temple guards and things like that. But the reality, however, involves no such violence. My hero also doesn’t kill or anything, he uses his plans to do it smoothly. The way he steals the idol itself will be a pretty new technique,” Krishna Shamy begins.

He admits that he worked safely with the script, having the certification board on mind — “From the start, we know that the script had potential to get stuck in censor issues. So, we were careful in avoiding such controversial content.”
Talking about the characters, he reveals, “There are three players in the story — an international criminal (Vamsi Krishna), a local small-time thief (Kathir), and an important role of a police officer Irfan (Kalnagiyum). And there’s a romantic block for Kathir. Khushi, a Mumbai-based model has acted opposite him.”

Kalavu Thozhirchalai is also the last film to be shot inside temples in Tamil Nadu since the government doesn’t allow filming inside temples anymore.

On a concluding note, Krishna Shamy also reveals that an interview of recently arrested DSP Kadhar Badsha, who is accused of antique robbery, was the inspiration for the film — “Ironically, an interview of him, which he gave about seven years ago, about saving an important statue is what made me come up with the story.”
