Finally, director Vijay spills the beans to DC on his ambitious project, a woman-centric horror film Karu, which also marks the Tamil debut of Sai Pallavi of Premam fame. She has missed out the opportunity of making her debut in Tamil twice on earlier occasions — Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai and Vikram’s Sketch.

We caught up with Vijay while he was busy in post production work at a popular studio in the city. The intriguing first look of Karu where Sai Pallavi was seen intimately hugging a child resembles a fetus inside a womb.

Talking about the theme, Vijay said, “It is an intense subject and focusses on the bond between a mother and her four-year-old daughter. Sai Pallavi essays the mother.” When prodded more on the sensitive subject, he reveals, “The movie touches upon the issue of abortion and I can’t reveal anything more at this point of time.”

Ask him as how he chose Sai Pallavi for the matured and strong role, he said, “Right from the beginning, I was very confident that Sai would be able to pull it off. I watched Premam as well as Kali. I loved her performance in both. She was very impressive in the latter. She has done a wonderful job in Karu.”

The Devi(l) director also shares that Sai Pallavi is dubbing in her own voice in the film — “I was very happy when she came forward to dub. This will enhance her role multiple times.”
