‘No questions asked it’s Vetrimaaran calling’
Thariyudan to be adapted as a movie.
VJ Ramya Subramanian, who was hitherto seen in small roles in films like Vanamagan, Aadai and Ok Kanmani, plays the lead heroine in a film Sanga Thalaivan, which has Samuthirakani as the protagonist. Manimaran of Udhayam NH14 fame directs the movie bankrolled by Vetrimaaran.
The plot of Sanga Thalaivan is adapted from a popular Tamil novel, Thariyudan, authored by Bharathinathan. The story revolves around weavers and the issues in the textile industry in the westerns districts of Tamil Nadu, mainly Coimbatore and Erode.
Speaking about the film, Ramya says, “This is a very important film to me, as this was the first signed flick. It was ace cinematographer Velraj sir who introduced me to Manimaran. I loved the script and instantly agreed to do it. All those who were part of this film, including the producer and director, give lot of respect to women. I am proud to be part of this film.”
Kani, on his part, said, “I grew up amidst the weaving community. So, it was heart-warming for me to work in the film. While he was directing Visaaranai, VetriMaaran called me and asked me to be part of it. The same thing happened in ST as well. If Vetri calls me, no questions asked, I just jump into it.”
