No big dreams for Karuna!
His presence in almost every big film is proof of his soaring popularity.
His presence in almost every big film is proof of his soaring popularity. Actor Karunakaran, who made a name for himself with roles like Soodhu Kavvum and Pizza, is quite excited about joining the Vikram-starrer Iru Mugan in April. “This is the first time I am sharing the screen with Vikram, and I can’t ask for more. I am super happy,” he says. Interestingly, Karunakaran tells us that he doesn’t necessarily want to be the hero, but he’s cool doing supporting roles, or that of a comedian.
He adds, “After Radha Mohan’s Uppu Karuvaadu, I didn’t accept any lead role. It was a wonderful script, and of course, anybody would love to work with Radha Mohan. But comedy is something that I get easily. I am getting lead roles also, but I don’t like the term ‘hero’; I believe in the script, and character. Initially heroes used to play heroes only; but I don’t want to do that. Take Nagesh sir, Nasser and MS Bhaskar for example. I want to be like them.”
But Karunakaran admits it is painful to get different kinds of exciting roles. “The more popular films you do, the better your filmography is going to be. I’d prefer being a part of good films, even if my scope is limited,” he smiles. Currently his kitty is full with films like Jackson Durai, Vallavanukku Vallavan, an untitled flick with Atharvaa and Veera, among a few. So, what’s his dream role? Pat comes the answer — “Nalan Kumarasamy always used to tell me that I should try doing villain characters, but I haven’t tried them yet! I don’t have a goal of sorts in particular; but I really want to act with Kamal sir. He’s an inspiration to me in many ways.”
