Bitten by the horror bug
Nithya Ramesh, who has helmed a multi-lingual horror short film, opens up about her Hollywood project and her fetish for horror stories.
Nothing deters the 24-year-old Nithya Ramesh, an engineering graduate, whose childhood dream was to enter filmdom. The Bengaluru-based actress-director has now come out with a multi-lingual horror film titled Never Invite.
“Apart from directing the film, I also played the lead role in it. The film, produced by a USA based production company is in post-production right now. For a short film of 25 minutes, we had a huge budget of Rs 5 lakh, which is mainly due to the use of CG and VFX. We shot the entire film in a bungalow for a week at Hyderabad,” she starts off the conversation.
At a time, when the horror genre is becoming a stale concept, Nithya boldly says that she would only want to direct horror movies. “I am all into horror and the scripts I have written so far are horror films. I also make it a point to bring only real-life incidents on screen. I have already been signed as a director for two films, which are of the same genre,” she adds.
Nithya has assisted maverick directors such as Puri Jagannath and Ram Gopal Varma. She states, “When I was assisting Puri sir, he introduced me to RGV. He read my scripts and complemented my skills. He further asked me to master the art of filmmaking. I worked as the first associate director in RGV’s Sarkar 3.”
On her future projects, Nithya shares, “I have signed a Malayalam film and talks are going on for producing it in Tamil as well. It is based on a true incident that happened in Rajasthan. I had to actually pay the people in Rajasthan to let out the story as they were all scared! Also, I will be directing a Hollywood movie and I am heading to California for a month to finalise the cast.”
The glam actress has also has been receiving acting offers from Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries but, she is not considereing getting into acting full-time... Nithya wants to take it easy!
