Thiruma gives clean chit to Nungambakkam
Ramesh has finally got an okay from VCK honcho Thol Thirumavalan.
Popular filmmaker Ramesh Selvan had sat on a protest fast in front of TFPC, as his upcoming flick Nungambakkam, based on the sensational murder of techie Swathy at Nungambakkam railway station by stalker Ramkumar, was dragged into controversy by members of the VCK. Ramesh has finally got an okay from VCK honcho Thol Thirumavalan.
When Ramesh completed his film in mid 2017, he faced a stiff opposition from Swathy’s dad who asked for a stay on the film. This led to a change in the title from Swathy Kolai Vazhakku to Nungambakkam. Later, he had issues with the Censor Board, which were sorted out.
After crossing several hurdles and producer Ravidevan had announced the release date of July 28, with U/A from Censor board, a few VCK members objected to the release saying the film portrays dalits in a demeaning manner, as Ramkumar was a dalit.
Thiruumavalavan who watched the film at a special screening organised by Ramesh has now given a clean chit for its release. He observed, “Ramesh has made the film with whatever information was brought out in Swathy’s murder case through police department and media and his own evidence. He has not spoken for or against Ramkumar, through the lead character Rajkumar. There’s nothing against Swathy, Ramkumar or the police force. I saw a few discrepancies in the original case and my party wanted a CBI enquiry into it. Ramesh had also kept those scenes in the film. Utilising his creativity and at the same time, not going overboard and with utmost care, he has weaved the film Nungambakkam”
He added, “We still have not got an answer for Ramkumar’s death, whether it was a suicide. The mystery behind Swathy’s murder is yet to be figured. The ruling party has put the case in cold storage. And Ramesh has also ended the film in a similar manner. I have no issues in the film’s release and my party will not intervene in the movie release.”
