No glamour for Maya
Abirami Ramanathan is producing the movie, says Maya.
Maya’s Darling 2 hasn’t even been released, but she has impressed filmmaker RK so much that he gave her the leading role in the Aari-starrer Unnodu Ka, which is likely to hit screens next month, or during May. “It is a comedy-drama meant for families. I found the script commercially entertaining and socially relevant, without being preachy. Abirami Ramanathan is producing the movie,” says Maya.
The actress tells us why she chose the movie. “After Darling 2, I wanted to choose a different scrip, a movie that would showcase my ability as an actress, without relying on glamour. That was when I got this opportunity and I didn’t want to let it go. Unnodu... is about two childhood friends who always fight with each other. However, at one point, they fall in love,” she adds.
Not many know she is a qualified dentist. Ask her what comes first — films or medicine? She smiles and answers, “I got into films because I love acting. I have always wanted to give films a shot. I am trying my best to balance both professions, but I am more passionate about acting.”
Manobala, Mansoor Ali Khan, Prabhu and Urvashi are also a part of Unnodu Ka. Shakthi Saravanan, the cameraman of Mankatha, will be the cinematographer of the film, while the music for the flick is to be scored by Sathya.
