Exclusive: Wanted only AR Rahman to compose Mom's music, says Sridevi
...said Sridevi during the promo event of her upcoming film 'Mom.'
Mumbai: Sridevi, who started her film career at the tender age of three, has touched the milestone of 50 years in Indian cinema. She was last seen playing the evil queen in Vijay’s film 'Puli,' and is now all set to light up the screens with 'Mom,' directed by Ravi Udayavar and produced by her husband Boney Kapoor.
The other highlight of the film is that AR Rahman composes the music.
Sridevi, who was in Chennai to promote the film, began her speech on an emotional note — “Tamil cinema has given me so much love and support. I will never forget that. It gives me immense pleasure to meet you all.”
The legendary artiste plays the mother of two girls in the movie. Talking about 'Mom,' she said, "It is an emotional family drama between a mother and her teenage daughters, and has a universal appeal to it. Also, being a mom of two daughters, I could relate to my character. I have dubbed myself for the Tamil version as well."
The actress said that she was particular that only AR Rahman should compose the music for the movie — "Finally, my dream of working with Rahmanji has come true! Right from the start of the film, Ravi and I wanted only Rahman to come on board, since only he could do justice with his soulful music. Now, I feel I am blessed. He has taken the film to a different level."
When asked about her glorious journey in Indian cinema, she said, "I don’t plan anything in life. I consider each film as my first film. It just happens — like how 'English Vinglish' happened and I take it in my stride. After that film, I became busy with my family. One day, my husband narrated the one line of Mom and I loved it... making it took two years for us."
Talking about the affection she shares with her two daughters, she said, "There’s so much love at home. I am so protective of them. There’s not much security for women in this country. Like any other mother, I also get butterflies in my stomach till the time they reach back home safely dail! "(smiles)
On two Pakistani actresses being cast on 'Mom' as her daughters, she said, "They are too good. No one else can do justice to the characters like they have done. You will know when you watch the movie."
She added that if good scripts come, her daughter Jhanvi would make a debut in K’town as well!
