It’s a season of sequels in Tamil cinema. Once a film becomes a hit, the makers will claim that they are coming out with a sequel irrespective of whether the second part has anything to do with the first one! (barring a few like the Singam franchise). Saatai, directed by Anbhazhagan and released in 2012, which dealt with the problems in our school education system and received critical acclaim, is the latest to join the bandwagon.

Titled Saatai 2, it has the versatile Kishore replacing Samuthirakani, who essayed the lead role of a teacher inspiring students to excel in academics, as well as extra curricular activities. In the climax, Kani gets transferred to a different place.

Apparently, National Award-winner Thambi Ramaiah who played a scheming assistant Head Master in the first part has been retained in the sequel. Shalom Studios, that made Saatai, is producing this new movie as well. Meanwhile, Samuthirakani’s upcoming directorial venture Appa, in which he plays the lead role, also deals with the education system and was earlier promoted with the tagline Saatai 2.
