I fell in love with my character in Nenjil Thunivirundhaal: Mehreen
... says Mehreen while talking to DC about her first Tamil film, directed by Suseenthiran.
Mehreen Pirzada, who hit the bull’s eye with back-to-back hits in Tollywood, is now making her debut in Tamil with Sundeep Kishan-starrer Nenjil Thunivirundhaal (C/O Surya in Telugu). In a chat with DC, she talks about her entry into K’town, her role of a carefree college girl in the movie, how Suseenthiran extracted the best from her and more...
“I should say that I have actually debuted much earlier in Tamil with a big hero... but not in a film. I shared screen space with Vishal for a commercial! As soon as I came to India from Canada, I got the ad offer. However, my first film was Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha. Fortunately, all my three flicks in Telugu turned out to be blockbusters,” the ravishing Mehreen starts her conversation.
The ever-smiling beauty says that she never dreamt of getting into acting — “It was purely accidental. Acing was never in my agenda. However, I won a beauty pageant and we shifted to Mumbai... then offers for ad commercials started pouring in. Eventually, the Telugu innings began.”
About her character in Nenjil… she says, “I play Janani, a boisterous girl from a middle-class family. She is a college student and highly confident about herself. Susee sir has given me the best-ever introduction scene in the film! I fell in love with the character even during the script narration.”
Sharing the experience of working with the director, she says, “On the sets, I was a bit tensed since the film was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. One day, before shooting, Susee sir called me and Sundeep for a workshop. He taught us many things regarding acting there. I am comfortable in Telugu, but Tamil was still an alien language to me then. I just followed what he said. If you reproduce 50 per cent of what he teaches, you would get an ‘A’ rating from the critics!” (laughs)
“I don’t take prompting. I write down the dialogues in English, but I also learn the meaning of the same, so that I get the right expressions. I hope I have done justice to my role,” she signs off. Surprisingly, Suseenthiran has signed Mehreen for his next film as well, which is going to hit the floors soon.
