Still from Vaandu

Vashan Shaji, a former assistant to Selvaraghavan, turns independent with the film Vaandu, which delves into illegal street fights that used to take place in north Chennai.  Speaking about his film, Vashan says, “The movie is inspired by real life incidents that took place in 1971, when illegal street fights were common in north Madras.

It may not be happening now but I have been living in north Chennai for the last nine months to learn their lifestyle in order to write the script. I also prepared the lead boys Seenu and Alwin in live locations.”

Shikha of Malayalam films will be seen as the lead girl in a de-glam role. Sai Dheena who hails from north Chennai essays the villain. “I am also introducing lot of local boys in the flick.

Ace Rama will be seen in a key character. I felt happy when a veteran actress like her said that acting in Vaandu helped her while doing Kanaa.”

People in north Chennai are portrayed in a bad light in city society. But, with my experiences, I would vouch that they are not like that and lead a normal life like people do in any other place, he adds. The movie will hit the marquee on February 8.
