I never want to be typecast: MS Bhaskar

Versatile actor MS Bhaskar, who won the hearts of many with his stellar performance in the recently-released 8 Thottakkal, has his kitty full now, with different roles. But the actor does admit that he was apprehensive when 21-year-old director, Sri Ganesh, first approached him — “One day when he came home, I thought he was my son’s friend and I told him my son wasn’t there! Then Ganesh referred a production manager’s name and said he had come to meet me. After the full narration, he said, ‘Appa, it was you who I kept in mind for the role of Moorthy when I wrote the script. It was a mind-blowing role and I was touched by his gesture of calling me appa.”
Bhaskar even goes so far to say that his 8 Thottakkal role, was his best till date. “Whether small or big, I give my best for my films. But I never want to be typecast. I turn down characters which are repetitive,” he asserts. In his upcoming Kalari, Bhaskar reveals that he plays hero Krishna’s dad in an intriguing role. He also has Padhungi Paayum Thala, in which he be seen speaking with a Thirunelveli slang.
The actor admits that he is not game for double meaning dialogues in the name of comedy — “Even during my Chinna Paappa Periya Paappa days, I did only clean humour. I want everyone from a family including kids to enjoy my comedy.” He is a regular in all Radha Mohan movies... what can we expect from the duo next? “In Brindhavanam, I play Louis, a fabulous character. Radha Mohan gives attention to minute details which helps me prepare for the film.” There’s also Guru Uchchathil Irukkan, directed by Dhandpani, where he portrays a straightforward politician. And in an untitled film, directed by actor Selva, he essays a retired military officer!
