Jaya, MGR to pair again in Ulagam sequel

Both icons may be dead, but they are to be paired again.  The former CM J. Jayalalithaa, who had acted alongside the matinee idol MGR in 28 films, will be the heroine to MGR in the animated film Kizhakku Apricavil Raju, a sequel to MGR’s 1973 blockbuster hit Ulagam Suttrum Vaaliban,  produced and directed by MGR.

MGR announced the sequel Kizhakku…. soon after USV’s mammoth success.  Since he entered active politics then and later became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he could not pursue his dream. Now, Isari Ganesh, son of late comedian Isari Velan and a close aide to the late MGR, is making the politician’s dreams come true by doing the flick in animation format.

Speaking on the occasion Ganesh said, “MGR and Jayalalithaa made a great pair and both shared the same ideals. People are ready to watch them on screen anytime. The film will have MGR’s successful commercial formula and Jayalalithaa’s portion will have an equal bearing on the script. The screenplay is written to suit the present day audiences.  Songs play a very important role in MGR’s movies. KAR is no different. For the first time, Vairamuthu sir has penned the lyrics for a MGR flick.”
