There were plenty of rumours that a split was on the cards between actress Amala Paul and director Vijay — the once adorable couple of K’town. When Amala Paul, who was on a career-high in 2014, chose to marry director Vijay, it created a huge buzz in tinsel town. Though Amala hit the bull’s eye with Mynaa under Prabhu Solomon’s direction, it was director Vijay’s casting her opposite Chiyaan Vikram in Deiva Thirumagal, which was dubbed in Telugu as Nanna, that catapulted her to dizzy heights. It was during the making of Deiva Thirumagal that the duo fell in love and went on to date for three years.

After a grand betrothal on June 7 in Kerala, the couple tied the knot on June 12, 2014 at a star-studded function in Chennai. Amala relocated to Chennai and lived with Vijay at a bungalow in the posh Boat Club area. But merely two years later, rumours in the industry claim that Amala and Vijay are headed for a split. It is learnt that the relationship between the two has been souring over the last few months, and the discord has snowballed to the point that both will opt for a divorce and separate with mutual consent.

One would have noted that Amala, who used to post many pictures with her hubby dearest on Facebook, has desisted in recent times. Industry sources reveal that the main reason for their misunderstanding is that Amala continued her film career and went on a signing spree after her marriage, despite the disapproval of Vijay’s parents. Close friends also cite lifestyles and compatibility issues as a reason behind their decision to separate. When DC contacted Vijay, he was unwilling to comment on the issue. However, when prodded, “I don’t want to talk anything about it. I will abide by what my parents decide,” was all he said. Amala too didn’t want to comment on the issue presently.
