Raveena Ravi bags role in film on cop-common man bonding

Voiceover artiste-turned-actress Raveena Ravi, who delivered an impressive performance in the award-winning film Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, has been cast opposite Suresh Ravi, as the female lead of Kaavalthurai Ungal Nanban.

Ask her why’s seen been missing from the screen for so long, and Raveena replies, “I have been dubbing day and night for films in various languages. I did receive a few acting offers, but they were regular glamorous, commercial roles, and I wasn’t keen on doing them. But I have completed a Malayalam film, and it’s ready for release.”

Talking about her role in Kaavalthurai Ungal Nanban, a film about the emotional bond shared by a cop and a common man, she says, “I play a working woman, Ravi’s wife. The film delves into the problems that women face in today’s world, and my character gets dragged into an issue that the story revolves around. This role has a lot of scope for performance, and unlike my other films, it doesn’t involve any romantic episodes.”

With her vast experience, Raveena has mastered dubbing for films, but there are new challenges for her every day. “I recently dubbed for Amy Jackson for 2.0. And though it was cool in terms of my voice, technically, it was very challenging. I had to do the dubbing in the pre-GC stage, when there was only a greet mat in the background, and I had to imagine what was happening,” she recounts, adding, “Another film for which I had to be extra cautious was Mani Ratnam sir’s Nawab, the Telugu version of Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. I lent my voice to Aishwarya Rajesh’s character without knowing a word of Telugu (laughs).”
