Work from home tips from Rahman
The maestro underlines the importance of the mind, positivity and empathy
A.R. Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raja share a great rapport, with the latter lending his voice to some of the former’s compositions. Now, on the eve of Ramzan, Yuvan has released an independent Islamic song, Ya Nabi, tuned by Rizwan. Yuvan and Rizwan have crooned the song in the music video, with the former also arranging and editing it. ARR shared the video on his social media handle and asked fans to listen and enjoy.
Meanwhile, in a recent live chat session on Instagram, Rahman shared few tips on working from home during the ongoing lockdown. He pointed out that for a long time now, he has been working in a studio in his home. He said that though his studio is inside his house, he prefers to dress for work, just as those who go out to work in offices do. “Be clean and hygienic,” recommended the maestro. “When I go to my home office even at night, you won’t find me in casual attire. Even when my family enters the studio, they dress appropriately. I keep all ringers, phones and emails off while working.”
Nothing that creative work cannot be forced out of anyone, Rahman underlined the importance of taking care of mental health. “Your mind is most important and it is imperative to keep it clean; so that it can perform efficiently. One should sleep and eat well but should not overeat,” he said.
“I like to light incense sticks or candles sometimes in my workspace, to bring in positive vibes,” the composer revealed, and asserted that he believes in spirituality but doesn’t approve of people fighting over religion.
Empathy was another quality that the musical genius discussed. He said one gets empathy only when one gives it. “What you do is what you get back. If you do good, it will reward you. Empathy involves looking after the people who are underprivileged and helping them,” he added.
