Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had announced that a manimandapam would be constructed in the memory of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan. The manimandapam, located at Adayar will be inaugurated on Sivaji’s 89th birthday, which falls on October 1. It was expected that Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami would preside over the ceremony.

However, the CM had asked two ministers to do the honours on October 1. This move has not gone well with Sivaji’s son and actor Prabhu. He has penned a letter to the Information Minister asking the CM and the Deputy CM to reconsider their decision. In the letter he stated, “Appa’s memorial was the great Puratchi Thalaivi Amma’s dream project. If she was alive she would have presided over this opening ceremony and would have done justice to our legendary father Nadigar Thilagam’s athma. “

The actor also added that they are disappointed with this decision by the TN government. “As much as we are happy about our TN government opening the memorial, we are disappointed that our CM nor the deputy CM are not presiding over this function. Through his films, he has done so much for Tamil culture and the language. It is kind of disrespecting our father,” he added.
