Kuzandhai Velappan, who directed Aanmai Thavarael, is quite kicked about the Kreshna-Swathi Reddy starrer Yakkai. “It’s a realistic romantic thriller, which has two parallel stories. I wanted to cast somebody who doesn’t have a pre-established image. So, when I approached Kreshna with the script, he was quite happy to do it. His boy-next-door image is the biggest plus.

Both Swathi and Kreshna play college-goers in the movie. Also there’s Prakash Raj, who’s playing a positive cop, besides Guru Somasundaram of Jigarthanda fame in the role of a villain” says the filmmaker. Elaborating further, Kuzhandhai adds that Yuvan took no convincing to compose music for Yakkai.

“Kreshna took me to Yuvan, and he was so impressed by the script that he immediately agreed. It was kind of Yuvan to say ‘yes’ as soon as I finished the narration,” he tells us.

Having shot in and around Kotagiri, Ooty and Coimbatore, the director says the team actually spent a lot of time scouting for fresh locations. “We thought of giving something fresh to the audience. So, months went by, and we zeroed in on several places. Currently, we are doing the post-production work and the team is keen to get the movie released in a month or two,” he concludes.
