A still from Paisa

Majith, who directed Vijay and Priyanka Chopra in the 2002 flick Thamizhan, is back with an off-beat venture titled Paisa, starring Pasanga Sree Raam and Aara.

Majith says, “This film is set against the backdrop of a slum. Paisa will be along the lines of Goli Soda and Kaaka Muttai, which revolves around the lives of the underprivilaged. I was astonished by how these small-budget films were both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. So, this was the inspiration behind my thoughts.”

Ask him how his movie differs from other projects in this genre, and he answers that his script has a strong storyline, replete with emotion. “My scripts are based on real-life experiences — I never attempt things I am not comfortable with. I would consider myself a success only when the ordinary filmgoer is able to get the essence of the movie. Kaaka Muttai depicted what it means to live in poverty in our society, but Paisa is loosely based on how a person will lose happiness when his/her only goal is making money.”
