Chennai: A 46-year-old assistant director in the Tamil film industry approached the city police commissioner’s office on Tuesday with a petition against the makers of actor Rajinikanth’s recently announced film- Kaala Karikalan.

K Rajasekaran of Porur, in his petition, claimed that he had registered the title, Karikalan with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce two decades ago, in 1996. Rajasekaran further claimed that he had intended to do the film with actor Rajinikanth and even managed to get an audience with the star through his friend. The project, however didn’t take off..

“The original story was based on the life and principles of King Karikalan and I had everything ready,” the petition reads. The petitioner claimed that actor Dhanush’s production company, which is bankrolling the project, had stolen the title and altered the script and requested the city police commissioner to take action.
