It is not a new phenomenon in K’town to have filmmakers get inspired by real-life incidents and make movies that connect with the masses. Joining the list is Swathi Kolai Vazhakku, based on the shocking murder of IT employee Swathi at Nungambakkam Railway Station, allegedly by her stalker Ramkumar last year, which shook the entire nation.

Later, when the accused in the case, Ramkumar was apprehended, he committed suicide by ‘pulling and biting into a live electric wire’ inside the Puzhal Central Prison. There were several unanswered questions in the controversial murder case.

Ramesh Selvan, who has worked with the likes of Vijayakanth and Arun Vijay, is wielding the megaphone for the flick. The film has been narrated from the perspective of the Nugambakkam inspector — and actor Ajmal Ameer, who has been missing in action, has been roped in to play the plum character. Debutants Aayira and Mano essay the roles of Swathi and Ramkumar.

Speaking to us, Ramesh says, “Usually, there is a figment of imagination while filming such real incidents. But here, I have  just registered what happened in the case without adding any extra content.”

The director adds, “I started writing the script even before Ramkumar was nabbed by the police. I closely monitored the investigation process and also spoke to people who were associated with both Swathi and Ramkumar.”

Ramesh has also met with police officials who had investigated the case before firming up his script. “I have also revealed a few undisclosed facts, which people are not aware of.

That will be a shocker to those who watch the movie in theatres,” he claims.
Quiz him on the possible objection from the family members concerned, and Ramesh answers, “I am planning to screen the movie to the families of both
Swathi and Ramkumar first to get their concurrence.”
