We bid goodbye to 2018 and here starts a new year with another bunch of hopes and aspirations. Last year, too, had contributed its share of happiness and miseries to everyone, but what keeps us going is the ability to dream and a heart to work towards it. Many people will be thinking about how to make 2019 better than last year, and will probably even make a New Year's resolution or two. However, fulfilling these resolutions and up to which extent, is a debatable topic. May be the moral behind the entire resolution culture is just to bring a sense of responsibility and discipline in people and January 1 being the first day of the year, it is probably easy to start doing something or implementing a change. As you think about your New Year’s resolution while you read the paper, we asked a couple of celebrities as to what resolutions mean to them and how it has been useful to them in their personal as well as professional lives. We speak to some of the actors, directors and music directors of Mollywood who had a
happening 2018 and have many upcoming releases in 2019 as well. We also ask artist Meera, who is very particular about taking a resolution every year regarding her decisions.

‘My heart goes out to the flood victims’

– Kailas Menon, Musician
I think 2018 was the year that I had been waiting for almost 15 years, ever since I decided to take up music as a career. I had wished to see this success for years that 2018 has given me. Jeevamshamayi was a huge hit and I am looking forward to work in some quality projects in 2019 as well. Amid the happiness, I also have concerns regarding my fellow beings who are suffering a lot ever since the floods hit Kerala in August. Some of my friends are still involved in the relief operations and have shared the reality with me. There are places where the victims received hardly any help and people are still striving hard to come out of the losses. Even though 2019 will start on a not-so-good note for them, I hope things will gradually be back to normal in the true sense.

‘Will watch good movies and travel’

– Nimisha Sajayan, actor
I feel that resolutions are meant for people who plan much and think before acting. I am not one among them. As an individual, I am content the way I live my life, without getting stressed out or carried away by the criticisms that I face. On the professional front, I would like to know more about cinema and plan to watch good movies and travel whenever there are not shooting commitments. I think that travelling, and observing people and facing unexpected situations, help an actor to fine tune his/her craft. 2018 has been a great year for me as my performances in Eeda and Oru Kuprasidha Payyan were applauded. Both the characters are also very close to my heart and I am eagerly waiting for my upcoming releases. It was indeed a proud moment for me when I saw that every Malayali stood together in defeating the floods that ravaged Kerala. I hope that communal fights don’t split the unity.

‘I’ve proper planning about movies’

– Arun Gopy, film maker
2018 was an extremely good year for me on the professional front. As far as resolutions are concerned, I have never been able to fulfill any of the resolutions I have made till date. I had planned to hit the gym, but ended up cancelling my instructors’ calls to remind me of my training sessions. Being a person who is extremely in love with food, over the years, I have realised that such a resolution is impossible for me to implement. However, I have proper planning in terms of my movies and future ventures and will ensure to implement them as it is no more personal when it comes to career and I think professionalism is the key to success.
