Optimism, thy name is Jins
Three films-old Jins Baskar will be next featured in director Sunil Ibrahim's upcoming flick Y in a substantial role.
Joining the list of software engineers who are making a mark in tinsel town is Jins Baskar. Though there are many youngsters working in corporate jobs who are passionate about films, not many have the gumption or the work flexibility to give filmdom a go. Luckily for Jins, everything fell into place and he has been seen in films like Swapnasanchari, Annayaum Rasoolum and Ayaal Njaanalla in small roles. He is currently excited about his role in the upcoming Y directed by Sunil Ibrahim in which he has a substantial role.
Jins’s brother Sanju was an actor but that was not what got Jins hooked to films. He says, “I was active in dramas and plays even during my school days. I finished my engineering in 2000 and got a software job in Chennai but I felt the job lacked creativity.
I also wanted a medium where I could leave a permanent mark for myself. I decided to go back to drama and asked for a transfer and came back to Kerala.”
Jins initially got a modeling assignment and then his roles in films happened, but they were not prominent roles.
He states “My trajectory in films was moving at a snail’s pace and I also took it slow because I had my regular job. My character of Jissmon in Annayum Rasoolum was a turning point for me and now my role in Y has me in a prominent role.” Y is a realistic thriller and Jins rejected a lot of offers from other directors for this film because he felt he had a strong role. The shoot of the film is complete.
Jins considers every opportunity he has got in films as a bonus and the biggest icing on his cake was his chance to share screen space with Fahadh in two films. The dream Jins saw would have remained just that if he did not have the support and backing of his company which has made allowances for him.
The number of newcomers in tinsel town is increasing each day but Jins does not feel threatened “Everybody has a space in Mollywood and it is all about your levels of passion and the amount of hard work you are willing to put in. Competition is there everywhere, even in the IT sector I am in, and I believe in giving films my best shot and then waiting for the results to follow!” The icing on Jins’ cake was his chance to share screen space with Fahadh Faasil in two films
