Police and Prisoners: Sudheer Karamana
Sudheer Karamana, who is completing 100 films this year, is essaying a policeman's role in the upcoming Anuraga Karikkin Vellam
For Sudheer Karamana, essaying a police official is not a new thing in his career as an actor. In fact the major share of characters he has essayed is that of a cop. Sudheer, who is completing 100 films this year, is again doing in the role of a police officer with Biju Menon- Asif Ali starrer Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, which is slated as a Ramzan release.
The interesting factor is that on the same day, he has yet another release —Karinkunnam 6s, in which he has an extremely opposite role — that of a prisoner. “It is a fact that the major share of roles that I have essayed is with the khakhi attire. I think it is because of my height and body shape that the directors easily find a police officer in me.”
‘But to be frank, I have tried my best to select the roles which have no shades of my previous roles,” says the actor from the sets of Dafedar, in which he acts as Assistant Commissioner of Police. Sudheer points out that he had rejected around two-three projects though he was called to act as police official. “Those were clichéd; I did not find any space for performance in those films. I am ready to do same kind of roles, but each one should be different when it comes to the characterisation. You cannot compare my role in Bavoottiyude Naamathil with that of Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, though both are cops. My character in Dafedar is completely different from above mentioned films,” he says.
It was during the production of Anil Radhakrishna Menon’s Sapthmashree Thaskaraha, Sudheer got acquainted with Khalid Rahman, who was then in the direction department of Anil. “A few days after the shoot, he had alerted me that he was planning a film (Anuraga...) and I would be having a good role in that. As he said, he has come up with a simple as well as a beautiful role. In this film I act as an Assistant Sub Inspector,” says the actor, who is gearing up to don the uniform of a prisoner in Manju Warrier-starrer Karinkunnam 6s.
According to Sudheer, it is one of the favourite roles in his career. “It is a role which has many shades. He is basically a prisoner, but he comes forward to become part of a volleyball team. As of now I cannot talk much about the role, but all I can say now is that it is a good role in my career. And as usual, I am not claiming anything about my roles or performances. It is the audience who give marks to my acting, when it reaches the theatres,” he sums up.
