On TV, superstars are women, says Dhanya Mary Varghese

Despite being just one month old, television show Seethakalyanam has become a hit among serial lovers. The show marks the comeback of model-turned-actor Dhanya Mary Varghese. However, unlike other actors who take a break after marriage and make a comeback after many years, Dhanya is back to work in just a span of six years.  “I cannot consider it as a break as I was busy looking after my kid. Just a part of my schedule was kept aside as my priorities changed after having a kid. Now that my son is five years old I can stay away from him for a couple of hours. Last year, I did a small role in television serial Kali Gandaki, which was directed by Madhupal. I think it paved the way to Seethakalyanam,” says Dhanya.

Dhanya stresses that her love for cinema is huge and that she is always willing to act in movies.  “At this point of time, serial provides me the space which I need to take care of my family. I can’t go on outdoor shoots and can only work for a stipulated time because back home I have responsibilities. Seethakalyanam gives me that space in addition to letting me follow my passion,” she says, adding that both movies and serials have positives and negatives.

“Movies are completed in a fixed time and you get to travel and explore places. However, it need not be an out-and-out role. Moreover, the trend is that female actors who make a comeback to big screen after marriage are confined to ‘mother and sister’ roles. In Seethakalyanam, I am doing the lead role, which has different dimensions.”  The actor revealed that she has received film offers as well. However, she has not committed any movie yet. Dhanya feels that female actors are the superstars in TV serials, and is happy that the viewers have liked her performance.
