A dancer, first: Megha Mathai
Megha Mathai, a dancer who has happened to act, will soon be seen in Mandaram and Vigadakumaran.
There is a certain grace in the way she moves. There is that unmistakable stamp of a dancer in her body language. Turns out the hunch is right. Megha Mathai is primarily a dancer — a classical dancer, she informs, who started practicing since her childhood. She continues with the classical dance practice even now, though she has branched out into other dance forms including contemporary. Megha who was seen in a small role in Aanandam and a prominent one in Oru Mexican Aparatha has now signed two more films — Mandaram with Asif Ali in the lead and Vigadakumaran starring Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead.
These roles did not find their way to her on account of her dancing prowess. In fact, Megha is also a model and it was her modelling stint in some brands that caught the eye of filmmakers. Though Oru… was different. She says, “In Oru Mexican Aparatha, the director wanted a dancer and that is how I got pencilled in for the role of a Kala Thilakam.” Megha goes on to explain more about her roles in the upcoming films, “In Mandaram, I play a lengthy role opposite Arjun Ashokan and it is a love story. In Vigadakumaran, I play an advocate and the film is directed by Boban Samuel.”
Megha is also in talks for some major projects but does not want to let the cat out of the bag. Dancing, like she said earlier, has always been a passion and she says, “I love dance more than acting but since I am getting a lot of film offers, I am not letting those slip by. I choose roles that I feel are good.” Megha also mentions that her parents completely support her foray into acting, which she is thankful for. Kottayam-based Megha is now settled in Kochi and is also studying for her first year M.Com. “My cousin is there in my college so notes are not difficult to procure and so far attendance has not been a problem,” she ends.
