Narain may not be seen in Mollywood on a regular basis but some of his characters remain etched in public memory. Classmates and Ayalum Njanum Thammil are perhaps what immediately come to mind. Though he has played a variety of roles, what has Narain really excited is his role in Kavi Udeshichatu which, he hopes, will be an image breaker. The actor sounds really pepped up when he explains his character Vattathil Bosco, that also has him pairing up with Asif Ali and Biju Menon. It was Asif Ali, also the producer, who informed him of the film and mentioned that one of the directors Thomas of the Thomas- Liju Thomas  duo would be narrating the story.

Narain listened to the interesting and humorous script on three men with agendas of their own, but wondered which role he was zeroed in on for. Narain narrates, “When the director mentioned Vattathil Bosco, I was surprised because all through the narration, I never thought I would be considered for that character. Bosco is very boastful, egoistic and a coward. It is a very humorous role and frankly, it was a role I have always wanted to do but was never approached for  and will be an image-breaker for me. This is a character I enjoyed playing after a really long time because it is a comic one sporting dark shades, gold chains and rings and dressed in white and white.”

The shoot of the film had a picnic-like atmosphere with the predominantly male cast gelling very well both on and off screen. In addition to Asif and Biju, there is a whole line-up of actors, including Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, Dinesh Nair, Sunil Sugatha etc. Narain says, “All of us used to have breakfast, lunch and dinner together and after the shoot, we used to hang out together in each other’s rooms with music playing. We were like one big gang and this is extremely rare. Since Asif was one of the producers, it made it easier to chill out! The shoot was at Iritty and after all of us making such a din there for more than 30 days, I wonder if any more shootings will be allowed at the location.”

Narain is happy that the film and his role have turned out well. Moving to sports, Narain, also the vice-captain of Kerala Royals, is satisfied with his team’s performance in the Kerala Badminton League and says that his teammates put up a brilliant show. He adds, “It is only when you get on the court that you realise you cannot take the game lightly because every single player is very serious about the game.  Jayaramchettan has been the driving force.”
