You are listening to Ranjini Haridas
Ranjini Haridas, popular for her stints as reality show host and television anchor, has shifted gears to RJing.
Why is it that despite so much criticism and hatred that has been hurled at her, Ranjini Haridas continues to be that person to whom event organisers run to when it comes to hosting mega events? Everytime she gets on stage or on screen, Malayalis divide into the ‘Hate Ranjini’ and ‘Love Ranjini brigades’. Everything from her hairstyle to her stand on social issues continues to be subjects of heated discussions online. Yet she rises to move ahead to experience life through a whole new perspective.
Latest? Ranjini is stepping into the shoes of an RJ. “Yes it is true, I’ve started RJing. It is kind of different, but quite similar too. I just find it kind of easier because there is no makeup and high heels,” she laughs. Ranjini laughs and corrects when asked if she likes and prefers looking chic in haute couture all the time, “I look absolutely horrible when I go for my radio recording. I find it a boon to be honest. I like it like that.” She adds “I previously had an offer to work with a radio station before my stint with TV, but then it was in another country, so I did not take it.
I didn’t want to travel at that time. There were people who always asked me to try it out. But nothing interesting came up. So when this offer came up, I thought why not? Anyways I am not overly stressed out nowadays. It’s very flexible with regard to time.” Ranjini will be joining radio Mirchi which was launched in Kochi recently. “I’ve only been with them for close to two months. As for my show, we haven’t even named it yet. But it’s going to be a general thing that I will get to talk about. It will basically be topic driven.”
Apart from RJing, Ranjini has decided to be a part of Jayaram’s Kerala Royals badminton team. “I used to play like everyone else casually. But then I never thought I will have to play so much,” she says. “I practise every day, I thought I could play well, but now I came to realise that I can’t play,” she jokes. “It doesn’t matter how badly I play, but I just feel that it is a great opportunity for people of my age to get out there and get active again,” she signs off.
