Saji Kumar's Poothi talks on spread of AIDS
KOZHIKODE: A Koyilandy native T Saji Kumar, working for the last three decades in the socio- cultural arena, is making short films on various social issues. The film that was released recently and one that got a tremendous response from the public and also students in the District was ‘Poothi’. This film talks about the practice of some people to spread AIDS through devious methods.
‘Pothi’ was recently screened during the National Film festival organised at the Government Arts and Science College, Meenchada and received a special mention on the topic that it handled. “The film has been widely accepted among the public and the result was getting an opportunity to screen the film in various parts of the District. The education department has also recognised the importance of the film and as a result, it will be screened in the educational institutions in the District,” said T Saji Kumar .
He has taken the responsibility of releasing five short films that raise awareness about many of the issues that are being talked about often, like that of the misuse of morphing, robbery and other current issues.
The other films to be released soon include ‘Monsoon Bumber’ and ‘The bag’. Work on a full length feature film is expected to be started soon. “Rather than giving stress on making commercial films, my mission is to produce a few films that give a clear picture on an issue being widely discussed in our society”, Saji added. “Since 1996, I have been seriously into film making, scripting and writing and all these experiences will be utilised in all my future endeavours”, he added.
