Medical board to examine Kalabhavan Mani death
Actor had assets worth Rs 20 crore; suffered from various diseases, submits police.
Kochi: The police team probing the death of film actor Kalabhavan Mani submitted before the court that it had constituted a medical board to probe the death. Police submitted that Kalabhavan Mani had assets worth Rs 20 crore. Police said Mani suffered from severe cirrhosis of the liver, jaundice, Adrenal Granuloma (Tuberculosis), Kidney dysfunction and severe type-two diabetes.
According to the police, the investigation was continuing and there was nothing to indicate that Mani was poisoned to death. In the statement filed by government pleader P Narayanan before the Chalakkudy police, it was revealed that the police had also examined the possibility of Mani committing suicide in the context of his chronic alcoholism. However, Mani’s demeanour in the days before his death did not point to this. The possibility of his consuming an insecticidal poison accidentally was also ruled out because almost all-organo phosphorous poisons had a pungent small which would prevent accidental consumption of contaminated drinks.
Mani had house plots at various places in Chalakkudy and 10 cent at Baisan Valley. Most of the properties were in his name and the rest in the name of his wife Nimmy. The total property of Mani was worth Rs 20 crores including landed property, LIC, Fixed deposit, Post Office Deposit, Vehicles etc. Mani had no liability except a vehicle loan. Police filed the statement on a plea made by Mani’s brother K R Ramakrishnan. As part of the investigation into financial deals, his close associates were thoroughly probed.
The conduct of persons who were regular visitors to his outhouse and close associates had been verified. The results from CFSL , Hyderabad, on the samples of blood, urine, viscera and gastric aspirates had been sent to the medical board for an opinion on the cause of death and the results were pending. Examination revealed that only methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol were detected. The state the government transferred the investigation to the CBI. But the decision of the CBI is still pending.
