Suresh Gopi gets a call, but no seat
It is said that Gopi is keen on contesting the Lok Sabha elections and not the Assembly polls.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Superstar Suresh Gopi has been forced to cool his heels this time although there were speculations earlier that the BJP would filed him from Thiruvananthapuram central in the Assembly polls.
He in fact got a call from the PMO, but that was to attend a Balagokulam programme along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on April 10. The BJP is yet to identify a suitable candidate for Thiruvananthapuram and the names of director Rajasenan and Aditya Varma are doing the rounds.
It is said that Gopi is keen on contesting the Lok Sabha elections and not the Assembly polls. Suresh Gopi confirmed that he will attend the Balagoukulam programme. He was in the news in May last when it was reported that he had been offered the post of chairman of National Film Development Corporation replacing Bollywood director Ramesh Sippy.
However, he had to be disappointed as a senior leader in the state was against projecting him and the central leadership did not want to displease it. However, Gopi has not been entirely sidelined as earlier this week, he got an opportunity to inaugurate the election committee office of Mr O. Rajagopal, who will be contesting from Nemom.
