Amazing acts
Director Sathyan Anthikkad picks six unconventional actors of the recent times those who have great potential and perform with a stroke of brilliance.
There are plenty of new faces that can be included in this list, as well as some really good performances laid out by actors who have been in the industry for some time now. I have heard people discuss about some good performances in movies such as Oru Muthassi Gadha and Kattapanayile Ritwik Roshan, I am yet to watch these movies. But then there are some really brilliant performances by actors such as Vinayakan and Manikandan who can be categorised as unconventional heroes. Rather than picking just hero roles, I believe we should look at the performance part. I have noted quite a few of such amazing performances in the past 5-6 years.
To pick a few I would choose Sunny Wayne’s performance in Ann Maria Kalippilanu which was very impressive. Another actor is Manikandan, who is without doubt a very promising actor. Shivaji Guruvayoor put up an amazing performance in Jomonte Suvisheshangal. His performance had a spark that would remind us about Thilakan chettan’s performance. I watched Angamaly Diaries and must say that Sarath Kumar who played the villain Appani Ravi delivered a brilliant performance. The movie had really good performances. I also liked the performance by Sinoj Varghese who played Kunjoottan, the man who is now known for singing the Chayakkada song.
Soubin Shahir is another such actor who gives beautiful natural performances. We must also remember that good characters are a result of good directors and from the past few years, some really good directors have come into the field. In the recent past, excellent directors are making an impact in the Malayalam industry, starting with Alphonse Puthren and his contemporaries, a generation that came after Anwar Rasheed and Aashiq Abu.
