Acting is part of my life: Chinnu Kuruvila

During a journey, Chinnu Kuruvila was sitting on the roadside, waiting for her bus and sipping tea. Two kids walked past her and one turned around and probed his friend. ‘Isn’t it the actress from Luka Chuppi?’ The friend immediately answered, “Why would an actor sit here.” Keenly listening to the conversation, Chinnu continued to sip the tea.  She re-tells the story with the same enthusiasm; she enjoys being in the crowd, just like anyone else. It’s a rarity for an actor who is in the limelight that she doesn’t wish to be recognised or kept in a higher pedestal. But her roles and her luscious hair speak enough for her.

Through her performance, Chinnu has proved that for her, the world of cinema is more of a passion rather than something that gives her fame. That’s why she keeps away from interviews. “I carry acting as part of my life, something I am passionate about. But I like to keep a low profile,” relaxes Chinnu, after much prompting.

Chinnu has recently appeared in Mammootty-starrer Kasaba in a rather controversial role. The actor says that despite her character being a woman doing flesh trade, she has no qualms about it. “For me, representing a prostitute was not something low. A character should be convincing enough, and that’s all I look forward to. I have seen many people who ended up in this business and a lot of stories go behind it. It was a small character and I don’t categorically think that my role should be big or small. A lot of people appreciated my performance in Kasaba. “

And she stands out for another reason. More than standing in front of the camera, she prefers to be behind. Placing her hands in the cinematography department, Chinnu says her current love is camera. Currently, she is assisting Manoj Pillai in the upcoming project Biju Menon-starrer Swarna Kaduva. Chinnu is also acting in the movie.

Asked why she preferred cinematography over direction, Chinnu answers, “This is my 6th film with Manoj ettan. I started with him in  Njaan. The technical side of cinema has always fascinated me. I find both acting and the technical side as different worlds. I understood the difference only once I tried my hand on technical side. Direction is a different ball game and I might want to try it later. I consider myself as a beginner in this field and right now what matters is the experience I gain,” signs off Chinnu.
