'What if I spit on Sindhu': Malayalam director's FB post sparks outrage
The director later clarified and claimed the post was an attempt at black humour which everyone failed to comprehend.
Mumbai: Malayalam film director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's ‘humourous’ take on India’s first female silver medallist, PV Sindhu, has received widespread flak.
Sanal had said that he would spit on Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu. While the entire nation has been celebrating Sindhu's historic achievement, the filmmaker wrote on Facebook in Malayalam, "Everyone is celebrating Sindhu's achievement now. What if I spit on this? What is there to celebrate much about it?"
His post pulled in a lot of criticism as social media lambasted his distasteful remark. Elaborating on the unsavoury remark in a subsequent Facebook clarification, Sasidharan called it 'black humour' that people failed to comprehend.
Patronisers of the sport aren’t convinced, though, and are in no mood to let go of their umbrage.
Sasidharan has helmed acclaimed Malayalam movies like 'Ozhivudivasathe Kali' and 'Oraalppokkam'.
