Nadirshah is Jack of all trades
Nadirshah who had set tunes for Amar Akbar Antony is back as a music director of two films Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum and Welcome to Central Jail
Nadirshah’s debut directorial venture Amar Akbar Anthony, for which he cast Prithviraj, Indrajith and Jayasurya in the lead roles, was one of the top-grossers of 2015. Along with its theme and making, the songs also played a crucial role in making this film a big hit.
The director, who had set tunes for those songs, is back as a music director of two films — Kunchacko Boban-Jayasurya-starrer Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum and Dileep’s Welcome to Central Jail. Just within a week of its release, the song Madhurikkum Ormakale, written, composed and crooned by Nadirshah, has become one of the chartbusters.
On the birth of the song, he says, “Though director Boban Samuel and producer Ashiq Usman had briefed me the situation for the track, I started working on the song only after the film started rolling. It is a funny, love song, which is being crooned on screen by Chackochan and Jayasurya. My concentration was on the lyrics. As their characters are not poets or avid readers, they won’t use poetic words or expressions while humming songs. The maximum they might do is to connect some songs they are familiar with. That thought made me to come up with this song.”
Nadirshah says this song will be a fresh attempt in the industry. “Normally, while making a parody, we borrow the music of a hit song. But in this song, I set a new tune and wrote lyrics by incorporating a few words taken from some of the hit songs in Malayalam to give a nostalgic feel to audience,” says the singer, who also acts as a doctor in the film. “It is a small role. In fact, my visit to the location was to discuss the song and all of a sudden, they cast me in this role.”
In Dileep-starrer Welcome to Central Jail, he has composed three songs. “It was Dileep and screenwriter Benny P. Nayarambalam who brought me onboard to compose music for three of the songs. This is for the first time that I am composing so many songs for a single film apart from Amar Akbar Anthony.”
He assures that there would be feel-good tracks like Enno Njanente from Amar Akbar Anthony. “I am really glad that Enno was widely accepted by music lovers of all generations. For Welcome to Central Jail, I have composed a lullaby — Ravin chillayil, which is also written by Bappu Vavad,” says the director, who is busy with the pre-production of his next directorial venture Kattappanayile Hrithik Roshan.
