The first decision that he took, when he zeroed in on the subject for his next directorial venture, was to make it appealing for all the family audiences. Though the basic subject is a thriller, he purposefully tried to mask such thrilling portions with some feel good scenes. A.K. Sajan, who wielded the megaphone for Mammootty's latest outing Puthiyaniyamam opens up about his preparation for the film.

“This subject was in my mind for the last two years. The core subject is something which cannot be seen in usual family films, though it is set against the backdrop of a family. This factor made me more conscious and that's why I became adamant in reducing the ‘so called’ thriller pace in this movie,” says the director.

He says, he has not tried to show any graphic scenes through this film, though it has been discussed there. “The film talks about the life of a rape victim and how she makes a come back to her life. It is the basic plot of the film. As I said, though it has such a crime in the backdrop, the target audience is family.

Normally, no family audience could easily bear such visuals. That's why I purposefully avoid such dark scenes and focused on the emotions as well as the dialogues in the treatment of the film,” the director says adding that the support from the actors Mammootty and Nayanthara helped him to implement his decision in an easy manner.

Sajan says it is a much relevant subject of great relevance in our society. “It is a known fact that still certain hawk eyes are following the women, which spoils their life. We read several such incidents in the papers. Another fact is that outside our state, especially in the northern states, such crimes are at the peak. That is the basic reason behind the enquiries that I get from the producers to remake Puthiyaniyamam there,” he says.

When it comes to his next venture in the role of writer, he says “It will be an action oriented thriller film, which deals with the life of a common man. It will be directed by Diphan and Jayaram essays the lead role.” Why he gave the director's cap to Diphan?

“I cannot direct all the scripts that I write. I prefer to direct sans-action film. I am not comfortable with taking the responsibility of such heavy subjects. So I approach my filmmaker friends to look after those projects,” says Sajan, who has started the scripting for his next directorial venture.
