Dates and deadlines have always troubled Manu, the director of Mundrothuruth, who always rushed his film to festivals in the 11th hour. That’s what happened at the time of sending entries for the Aravindan award too. But good that he made it at the last minute; he has been unanimously chosen the Best Debutant Director for the 25th edition of the Aravindan Awards.

This year marks the acclaimed director’s 25th death anniversary and on that day — March 15 — Manu will receive his award. “I am happy because it is named after one of my favourite filmmakers and because this is the first award for the film,” says Manu.

The film had also received a lot of attention at the International Film Festival of Kerala held in Thiruvananthapuram last December. Manu has earlier made short films like Exit, Goalee, Bridge Me Baby and French Revolution.
