Soumya Sanathanan, who is known for her covers including an a cappella track, has come up with her first original song. Interestingly, she has scored music for a children’s song — 2 Kunji Kuruvi… — in her debut. The video of the song features two children — a girl and  a boy — out in the nature exploring its beauty.

It is, for sure, will take the audience on a nostalgic trip. The song features Ihsan Siddique and Neelambari Soumya, who is Soumya’s daughter. The duo, dressed up in simple costumes, has sung and acted in the video.

Soumya says the song happened quite accidentally when Sameera Siddique, a friend of her who lives in Salalah, once asked her if she could suggest a song for her son. She didn’t want film songs. “I sent a few songs, but they were beyond the little one’s capacity. Then, I thought I would send him a simple song with an easy tune. When I asked E.K. Soman for lyrics, he sent this. I sang the song and sent to them. When they sent his version, I found it very cute. My daughter too grasped the song easily. Thus, this project was born,” says Soumya. “The song was shot on the premises of Thiruvananthapuram when Ihsan came for vacation.”

According to Soumya, the shooting was totally fun-filled. “By the end of the shooting, our little one got so tired, and even said he won’t do it anymore,” she smiles. “Also, the duo got tired of enacting the same scene for different shots. We had to keep pacifying them,” she laughs.

The video, released a few days ago, is garnering netizens’ attention for its beautiful frames, simple music and cute rendering of the duo. The music is so simple that any child can sing it. “That was my aim. Anyone should sing it,” says Soumya.

“The credit for the video goes to Shijith Shajahan, who directed it despite our limitations. He suggested the properties like slate.”   Cinematography is by Vivek Vijayan.
