Happy ending of a filmy dream
Gopalakrishnan’s eyes have seen hundreds of actors, but his heart had only name written on it — Mohanlal.
There is no language that Cherthala native Gopalakrishnan E. is unfamiliar with. The same goes for his familiarity with prominent actors from all over India. Curious about the reason? He has been working as a film operator for several decades at Saritha Theatre in Kochi, where films from all over the country with pan-Indian actors are screened.
Gopalakrishnan’s eyes have seen hundreds of actors, but his heart had only name written on it — Mohanlal. The film operator has been a hard core fan of Mohanlal and cherished a deep desire to meet him personally. It was a report in a regional paper that highlighted his liking for the legendary actor and then the universe took over. It conspired to get him his heart’s desire in the form of director B. Unnikrishnan, who read the article and immediately got in touch with Gopalakrishnan. Unnikrishnan shares the rest, “I was astounded by the fact that though he had seen so many actors on screen, it was Mohanlal who was his favourite. I called up Mohanlal, who replied that Gopalakrishnan could meet him any time he wished to.”
The universe, still in a conspiring mood, ensured that Mohanlal was in Kochi for the shooting of his Siddique directorial Big Brother. Unnikrishnan arranged a vehicle for Gopalakrishnan to meet the actor and the delighted fan got to finally meet his idol. Unnikrishnan says, “They spent around 30 minutes talking and even had lunch together.” Dreams do come true!
