Those who watched Meera Jasmine’s latest outing 10 Kalpanakal cannot easily forget the basic thread of the film, which is set against the backdrop of a murder series executed by a rapist. The main storyline is being narrated through the life of a widow Nancy and her 14-year-old daughter Angel. Anchor-turned-actress Kavitha Nair has brilliantly portrayed the role of Nancy.

About her role and the film, she says, “Though Don is from my native place, we were not friends until I got the call from this film. In fact, it was just a few days before he started the shoot that I got call through his associate, who has been my friend for the past 10 years. When I heard the subject, I could easily relate my role to many people who are familiar through news. In no time, I said yes to the role, which will remain as one of my favourites.”

Kavitha says she is happy as she was showcased in the last song of legendary singer S. Janaki. “I had just 12 days of shoot. My main combination was with Rithika, who essayed the role of Angel. As I can speak Hindi, we became close from the very first day itself. Though I had heard Janaki Amma’s song from my co-artiste’s mobile phone, I had no clue that I was the one who was supposed to get featured in that song. It was when one day Don showed me the song that I realised that he had filmed those scenes with me, as he had not played it during the shoot. Interestingly, he had used many shots, which were candidly filmed when I was with Rithika,” says the actress, who became emotionally connected to the character when she was on the sets.

“Don had given us full freedom on the location. He had not gone for a retake for the scene in which my character goes to the murder spot of Angel, though there were some technical imbalances as he said he had got what he was planning from the beginning. Even after he said cut, I was still in the hangover of the character. It took more than five minutes for me to come out from that mood,” says Kavitha, who is currently acting in Honey Bee 2. She says it was at the apt time that she got the call from Honey Bee 2. “My role in this film is completely opposite to Nancy in 10 Kalpanakal. This change was very necessary for me at this time as it helps me come out of the serious mood,” says the actress.
