A great first impression
Krrish makes a convincing brooding man' in Sugeeth's Kinavalli.
When the entire cast of the Sugeeth-directed film Kinavalli trooped into a multiplex in the city for the ‘first day first show’, most of them had their hearts in their mouths. For one, this was a film that had relative newcomers playing the lead roles. In a star-driven industry, it was a big risk Sugeeth had chosen to take. But as soon as the final credits rolled by, there emerged positive signs. The audience stopped to meet and congratulate the actors and heap praise on them. Krrish cannot be happier — the butterflies that were doing a wild dance in his stomach settled down and he got to let out his breath. Krrish plays one of the leads in the film that has six leads — four male actors and two female actors.
Chennai-settled Krrish exclaims, “The response has been very heartening especially since we were pitted with star-studded films including the Mission Impossible sequel. As a newcomer, this response has surpassed my expectations. Such responses will go a long way in boosting the morale of newcomers.”.
There was another reason why Krrish was sceptical about his role, “While the rest of the lead actors are all happy and jovial, I play this brooding and angry man. So I was a bit worried about how the audience would react,” he reveals and shyly says, “One of the oft-repeated compliments I received was that I had good screen presence.”
Talking about how he landed the role in Kinavalli, Krrish says, “Some of my friends from Kochi showed my photos to Sugeeth when he was looking out for new faces for Kinavalli. I sent him an audition tape and was selected based on that.”
He states that he learnt a lot from Sugeeth with regard to acting and dialogue delivery.
Krrish did his graduation in filmmaking and advertising from Mumbai and also his post graduation in post-production and special effects. He made his acting debut in Gautham Menon’s Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada and then worked as an assistant director under Gautham in films like Neethane Enn Ponnvasantham, Yeto Velipoyindhi Manasu, Yennai Arindhaal and Saahasam Swaasaga Saagipo. It was the Ajith-starrer Yennai Arindhaal that set the ball rolling as far as his acting sojourn was concerned. It was Ajith himself who suggested that Krrish try his hand at acting and he ended up doing a small role in YA.
For a boy who decided that he would be an actor ever since he was four, the role in Kinavalli has been the culmination of a long-held dream, “I devoted a lot of time for the film and did not even look at any new projects because I wanted my entire attention to be focused on Kinavalli. Now, I can happily sit back and start looking at other offers” he concludes.
