Sanam Re movie review: Will take you to ice age
Divya Khosla Kumar needs to brush up her directing skills since her directorial looks like a holiday package for the entire team.
Director: Divya Khosla Kumar
Cast: Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam, Urvashi Rautela and Rishi Kapoor
Do you love ice? If you are an ardent fan of ice, then 'Sanam Re' is for you! Second time director Divya Khosla Kumar will take you on a free holiday to the exotic locales filled with ice sheets in the cost of your ticket price. Beginning with the cliché childhood romance to sacrificing for true love, 'Sanam Re' has everything possible which will leave you depressed to the core.
Akash (Pulkit Samrat) is a guy from the small town, Tanakpur where you won’t see sunlight ever. He believes in all those fairytale love stories, which his grandfather played by Rishi Kapoor shares with him since his childhood. With the most regular formula, Akash finds his true love in his neighbour cum schoolmate Shruti (Yami Gautam). The two start seeing their future together but Akash’s ambition of becoming rich ruin their relationship and Akash leaves Tanakpur and moves to Mumbai.
While chasing his dreams, Akash meets the bikini babe Ms. Pablo aka Akansha (Urvashi Rautela) at a yoga camp, who pretends to fall for her to get the contract for his company in order to save his job. Destiny has its own game that it makes Akash meet his childhood love Shruti in the camp. The two discovered the love eventually but guess what? Their love story leaves incomplete with the most expected mishap. Well you guys are enough smart to predict.
Six films old male protagonist Pulkit Samrat is best known for his act in 'Fukrey' and with 'Sanam Re' he should think of packing his acting bags and leave the tinsel town. His expressions are horrifying. We believe that he turned so red with the ice all around that he couldn’t concentrate on his dialogue deliveries. Yami Gautam, who was flawless in her debut film 'Vicky Donor', is bearable with her cute smile on a pretty face. She needs to spruce up her act else we won’t be surprise if she joins the list of one-film wonders. Urvashi Rautela is a just a prop with loud make up and bikini body. We wonder, who puts so much make up in the snowfall? These three leads are so fake that even the real snow looks synthetic. Rishi Kapoor who plays the role of Daddu did justice to his small role, however director has wasted their most potential artist. Prachi Shah and others have nothing much to do in the film.
Well, that’s not it, director Divya Khosla Kumar tries her hands in dancing on a party song. At first place, the song is ear scorching above but then Divya appeared on the silver screen and scarred us for life with her disastrous dancing moves. Title track 'Sanam Re' by Arijit Singh is the saving grace for the music lovers, which comes in the pre-climax.
The story and screenplay credits by Sanjeev Datta come as a shocker since Sanam Re has nothing to do with any of it. In the dire need to save the script, the writer induced unnecessary gay humour that will make your head spin. Seems like Divya Khosla Kumar tried to re-create Nicholas Spark’s magic on-screen, however it turned to be an epic fail.
Last directed 'Yaariyaan', Divya Khosla Kumar needs to brush up her directing skills since her directorial looks like a holiday package for the entire team. The only good thing about 'Sanam Re' is that its a 120-minutes movie. And… if you thought this is how a love story is suppose to be, trust us on this one, you wouldn’t want to have one. 'Sanam Re' is not a love story to be watched on this Valentine’s Day.
